Slogue textiles upcycling school holiday camp Flip Fashion Forever features on Seven Network’s Better Homes & Gardens in August 2025

Threads of the past, stitched into the future

Textiles have always been more than fabric. For over 20,000 years, they’ve been used to protest, commemorate, and call for change…

  • WWII POWs stitched secret messages into clothes

  • Under Pinochet’s dictatorship, Chilean women sewed hidden cries for help into patchwork

  • Needlework has carried stories, defiance, grief, and hope — spun into thread, woven into cloth, passed hand to hand

The English words “text” and “textile” both come from the Latin texereto weave. We don’t just make clothes; we weave narratives, identities, movements.

Can sewing once again call for change — this time within the fashion industry itself?

Slogue Circles take the humble sewing circle out of living rooms and into libraries, markets, festivals, and high streets. Youth-led, hands-on, and visible, they flip the meaning of fashion and bring textile creativity back into everyday life.

For Young Fashion Grads, Textiles Students & Mentors

A chance to get paid to stitch.

Bring along your own mending or creative projects — the ones you’ve been meaning to finish. Work in pairs, guide participants who join in, and enjoy the productivity magic of body-doubling. Each council-booked Circle pays $100 for two hours, and you choose when and where you take part.

This isn’t “just work.” It’s a way to progress your own practice while being visible, inspiring others, and stitching yourself into a bigger movement.

Get Involved

Register your interest via our Contact form and choose from the following options:

Threads of the past have always told stories. With Slogue Circles, we’re weaving a new one .

For Youth, Parents & Community Participants

A welcoming space for young people (and the young at heart) to get off screens and into making.

Circles are open drop-in sessions where you can:

  • Bring your own clothes to repair or upcycle

  • Pick up pre-started projects

  • Learn hand-sewing, embroidery, t-shirt yarn crochet, applique, and more from our mentors

No pressure, no perfection — just the joy of making, sharing, and reconnecting through textiles.

For Councils, NFPs & Businesses

Be part of a Sydney-wide movement for circular fashion.

By hosting or funding Circles in your community, you’re:

  • Activating public spaces in creative, visible ways

  • Supporting youth-led climate action and hands-on learning

  • Reducing textile waste through repair, reuse, and rewear

  • Offering residents an accessible, intergenerational, low-cost creative activity

Partnering with Slogue means amplifying a proven, media-recognised program (Flip Fashion Forever as seen on Better Homes & Gardens), while making a tangible impact on sustainability and community wellbeing.

Why It Matters

Fast fashion tells us clothes are disposable. Slogue Circles prove otherwise.

Every time a young person spends two hours repairing a shirt, they’re less likely to throw it away after two wears. Every time they see a peer upcycling an outfit, they learn that fashion can be self-expression, not just shopping.

And every time a council hosts a Circle in public view, it signals that creativity, climate action, and community belong in the everyday.
